Hello dear readers,

I write to you from my kitchen desk today, a beeswax candle burning before me. It’s only mid-afternoon, but I’m on my second cup of coffee, because this weekend has been busy.

I’m not totally certain I’ve mentioned this, but we’re having a storage room built in the garage below our suite¹. It’s been going on for a few weeks now, and we’re at the point where I get to get in there and do some finishing touches. But these finishing touches keep turning into more finishing touches, and now I have a list of about twenty items to check off.

To be clear, not all of them have to do with the storage room; some of them bleed into the entryway, which is attached to it, because I have no chill². The good news is, I have the entire summer to get them all done. The bad news is, there are about a million other things I want to do this summer.

One of those things is to complete a final round of revisions on my novel. I mentioned those first in this post, but unfortunately I will continue to be vague about them; however, I will say that they’re going quite well, and by the time you read my blog post next week, they should be complete³.

Another of those things is to actually relax. With work, writing, and the construction project, life has been pretty busy lately. I have found time to read more than I have in a few months, which has been nice, but I need a few days where I have absolutely nothing on my schedule. 

And with nothing on my schedule, something I’d like to do is work through the embarrassingly large pile of sewing projects I have on the go. I’d been thrifting, and found a few fun patterns, and before I knew it I had several different projects all cut out and ironed and waiting to be sewn. Normally I wouldn’t do it like this, but I did this time for some reason. Who knows why! I certainly don’t.

One of those projects is the widest pair of pants I’ve ever laid eyes on. Each leg’s circumference at the hem is about two feet, and so I’ve been calling them my clown pants. I’m very much looking forward to wearing those—once I finish sewing them. Another project is a floor-length dress with long bell sleeves, which is gorgeous and witchy, and I can imagine myself wearing it once autumn hits⁴.

But now I hear the storage room calling to me, asking me to sand the drywall mud I finished adding yesterday. So, I hope the coming week treats you well, and that you’ve been finding ways to relax a little bit over summer.

¹ We’re above a garage, and lucky for us, our landlord is my mom, who is an angel dressed as a human being. She’s also a dreamer like me, so our wild ideas often turn into real-live projects, such as this one.

² Okay, I do have some chill. But the non-storage room checklist items have been on my to-do list for some months now, so I’m connecting them to this to-do list so I’ll actually get them done.

⁴ So I’d better get going on finishing it then, shouldn’t I?
