Hello dear readers,

It’s been a few days since I’ve posted here and I wanted to check in. My husband has this week off from work, which meant I also (sort of) took the week off. Autumn is my favourite season, and October my favourite month—of course I’ll jump at the chance to take time off now, to spend time outdoors and appreciate the changing leaves.

We’re both homebodies, so this week has mainly been based around that, though we did do a few outings. So far, we’ve gone to a few nature reserves to look for birds, and spent a night in Harrison Hot Springs, which was an excellent reminder that I need to leave my house and get out of my own head once in a while.

While at the resort, I had a transcendent bowl of garlic butter prawns and a sparkling sapphire cocktail, whose name I forgot immediately upon drinking. We also walked along the lake (saw a blue heron, two ravens, and my first-ever Western grebe!) and swam in the hot pools in the rainy dark.

We’re back home now, and my fabric pile is calling to me from my office. Before we went away, I cut out three (!!) more dresses, modelled on my favourite dress that I found in a thrift store years ago. I already made two of this dress out of old bedsheets, and now with these three more, I’ll have six of the same dress in varying colours and fabrics. 

If you’ve seen the pictures of our new bookshelf, where all my toques are lined up, you’ll already know this is normal for me: when I find something I like, I make/buy it in a number of different colours. If you’ve been around for a while, you’ll remember last year’s scarf-knitting saga (there are seven different colours of that one now, with more to come). 

I’m also in week two of my short fiction course, and I’m loving every minute. This week’s unit is all about characterization, and we begin workshopping this week, too. To be honest, I am a little fried today, so I don’t think I’ll be doing any homework—I’d like to get it done when my brain isn’t full of cobwebs, especially since we give feedback on our classmates’ work.

Otherwise, today looks like a library visit, a trip to the fabric store for ribbon, and hopefully not much else. It’s quite gloomy today, with rain expected, so I’m looking forward to curling up with a good book on the couch.
