Prophecies for 2023

A valley full of trees, a river, and mountains. Blue sky and clouds.

2023 will be the year of hitching a ride to the moon and walking back with stardust in your hair; frying eggs at one in the morning and watching the clouds shift by outside the window; sinking into a stream in the middle of the woods, the water swirling around your ankles as you lean back, the trees sheathing you in. 2023 will be sharp corners smoothed by time and forgetting what numbers are. 2023 will be locking eyes with death and laughing, unraveling your anxiety and leaving it on the edge of the road, making promises you know you can keep. 2023 will be finishing the notebooks you started and then starting another. Using up all the half-used pens. Throwing away the stale chips and burning the size zero jeans. Activating. Participating. Throwing your phone in the sea. 2023 will be you, star drunk and laughing while you dance down the middle of the street. Drinking coffee from a wine glass because you can and driving to the sea to watch the waves crest and the gulls cut their wings through the frozen air. 2023 will be using the good teacups every day and not caring if they chip, their gold rims flecking the sink. Baking a four layered chocolate cake and eating it with your fingers. Learning to use a tattoo gun and practicing on the thin skin of your wrists. Letting go of everything you’re too tired to carry. 2023 will be forgiving. 2023 will be you, crystallized. 2023 will be fighting god in the street and knowing this is your year to be opulent, daring, obscene.
